He was a Czech economist, forecaster and politician. Komárek was member of Czech Social Democratic Party (ČSSD) - from 1991. He was director of the Institute for Forecasting Academy of Sciences in period 1986 - 1992. During his professional life he also served as an adviser to the Cuban Minister of Industry Ernesto Che Guevara. Komárek was considered the Legend of the Velvet Revolution. Passed away on May 16, 2013 in Prague's hospital Na Homolce.
